On 26th June 2025, our lives changed forever when my husband Andrew was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) at the age of 53. The words brought devastation, shock, and disbelief. It’s hard to imagine how three letters—”MND”—can completely transform your world.
I first became aware of MND through watching a documentary about Rob Burrow, the rugby player who was diagnosed with the disease. Never did I imagine that this knowledge would become so personally relevant.
“Life’s turned upside down, but we’ve chosen to live for the future and make so many precious memories together.”
In November unfortunately Andrew had a fall after loosing balance and his legs giving way a visit to A and E was necessary
There as been a couple more incidents over the last couple of months however we overcome the difficulties with a positive approach.
Andrew gets frustrated not be able to do the things he use to do but concentrate on the things he can do
At the present time strength in his arms and legs have become weaker taking upto half an hour to get dressed
We live each day positive making memories and awareness of MND.
Beginning of this year Andrew’s situation changed finishing full time employment after 19 years service as he can’t physically do the job anymore. The company celebrated with lovely meal.
He now keeps himself busy by working on the website.
This as brought more challenges but we will have the same positive mind set every day.
As there is no cure for MND, it’s all about making “precious memories.” That’s all we can do now, as we don’t know how long we have left.
I’m asking for your support to help raise funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Together, we can make a difference and raise awareness of this devastating disease. You can contribute through our JustGiving page, help with our charity events, or simply share our story to spread awareness.
Kevin completed seven ultra marathons in seven days in seven different cities exceeding his £777,777 fundraising target
The England defence coach and former Rugby League star was inspired to run for his friend Rob Burrow MBE who was diagnosed in 2019 Since then Kevin as raised over 11 million pounds to help find a cure and make awareness of MND
There is currently 5,000 people living with MND in the UK right now.
Andrew said “Meeting Kevin meant so much to him, At a time when everything can feel uncertain following an MND diagnosis, his kindness, humility and honesty was really uplifting. He took the time to listen and to remind us that we’re not facing this journey alone. We’re deeply grateful.
